ABOUT US
Ankawa Humanitarian Committee Founded to Support Vulnerable Communities
The Ankawa Humanitarian Committee (AHC) was founded in February 2020 by the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil, represented by His Excellency Chaldean Archbishop Bashar Warda. Established as a legal representative NGO, AHC was created to extend the Archdiocese’s humanitarian and developmental mission, supporting vulnerable communities in Iraq and reaching out to national and international donors.
AHC was born out of a crucial need to assist those displaced by conflict, persecution, and instability. In August 2014, the rise of ISIS forced over half a million people from their homes in the Ninewa Plain and Mosul, targeting religious and ethnic minorities, including Christians, Turkmen, Yazidis, and Shabak. Entire communities were uprooted, with thousands seeking refuge in Ankawa, Erbil, and other safer regions. Many of these displaced families have struggled to rebuild their lives in the face of ongoing economic challenges and uncertainty.

Since its founding, AHC has remained committed to empowering displaced and vulnerable communities, offering essential support through humanitarian relief, education, capacity building, and sustainable development initiatives. With a deep-rooted mission to restore dignity and hope, we work alongside local and international partners to ensure that those affected by displacement, conflict, and hardship receive the necessary resources to rebuild their futures.
Our efforts continue to strengthen the resilience of Iraq’s most vulnerable populations, fostering a future where every individual, regardless of background, has the opportunity to thrive.
