Alex and Saly started as two volunteers with the Archdiocese of Erbil, where they provided basic assistance to thousands of internally displaced people who fled to Erbil in 2014. This life-changing experience pushed them to pursue a career in the humanitarian sector. “I feel that as human beings, we are responsible towards people in need. We are one big family in this country, and with perseverance and hard work, we can achieve the impossible,” said Saly.
Today, they are working to implement a USAID-funded project to build the skills of the Ankawa Humanitarian Committee in order to better serve their community. . The goal of this project is to strengthen the capacities of the nascent organization by creating adequate systems and building the skills of staff members.
